| Edinburgh | Edinburgh is world renowned as a historical, cultural and increasingly cosmopolitan city. The city itself is bordered by the Firth of Forth to the north and the Pentland Hills to the south and is set amongst a string of extinct volcanoes, with Arthur’s Seat providing the most visible proof of this ancient world.
Famous for it’s large castle which dates back to the Bronze age (nearly 1000 years BC) and dominates the landscape, Edinburgh is abundant with pockets of history from many times including Medieval, Georgian and Victorian.
Being a capital city, Edinburgh has had to change with the times. Its world famous Fringe Festival and International Film and Art Festivals bring millions of tourists to the city every August. Many of the worlds most famous artists, actors and comedians have elevated their careers by performing during the Festival in Edinburgh.
Edinburgh also provides a great base for people looking to explore other areas of Scotland. Day trips are easily achievable to places such as St Andrews, Glasgow, Stirling, Perth, Ayr and the Scottish Borders. Trips to Aberdeen, Inverness, Fort William and Skye would take between 3 to 4 hours each way. Therefore it would be best to base yourself in one of these places for tours in the north. |
